German tea culture may not be as famous as British afternoon tea, but it runs deep — especially in the north, where East Frisia has per-capita tea consumption that rivals any country on earth. The brands in our shop reflect over a century of German expertise in blending, packing and perfecting tea.

Teekanne was founded on 16 July 1882 in Dresden under the name R. Seelig & Hille. Its trademark registration number 6541 makes it one of the oldest continuously used trademarks in Germany. In 1929, Teekanne employee Adolf Rambold designed the world's first tea-bag packing machine, and in 1949 the company launched the revolutionary double-chamber tea bag — folded from filter paper, not glued — which allows water to circulate around the tea from all sides. Today, Teekanne produces around 7.5 billion tea bags per year at its headquarters in Düsseldorf and remains family-owned.

Meßmer traces its roots to 1852, when Eduard Meßmer began trading tea in Baden-Baden. The brand earned the prestigious title of purveyor to the court of Kaiser Wilhelm I in 1884. Since 1990, Meßmer has been part of the Ostfriesische Tee Gesellschaft (OTG), itself founded in 1907 in East Frisia — Germany's heartland of tea expertise. Meßmer is known for its broad range of classic and specialty blends from tea-growing regions worldwide.

Goldmännchen-TEE has been a family enterprise since 1949, when it was founded in Kressbronn am Bodensee. Now in its third generation under the Dr. Klar family, the company has strong roots in Thüringen (Thuringia), where it holds the Thuringian Seal of Quality and Origin for several herbal infusions. Goldmännchen's 9-Kräuter-Tee (9-herb tea) is a fixture in German households, and the brand is particularly beloved for its fruit and herbal blends at an excellent price-to-quality ratio.

Yogi Tea brings an Ayurvedic dimension to the German tea shelf. The brand's European operations are headquartered in Hamburg, with production in Imola, Italy. All Yogi Tea blends are certified organic and built around traditional Ayurvedic spice combinations — cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves and black pepper form the base of the original recipe. Yogi Tea offers over 40 blends made from 140 plants, all sourced with a strong focus on sustainability and regenerative agriculture.
